Culver City CERT is operationally divided into three Districts which coincide with the response districts for each of Culver City's three Fire Stations. Each District has a Staging Area in which that District's response to a major disaster can be coordinated. Each District is led by a District Manager that is a Board Member. Each District is sub divided into one of 26 geographic residential neighborhoods called Neighborhood Emergency Response Teams (NERTs). Each NERT is are led by a NERT Coordinator that is responsible for organizing the CERT Members living within their NERT's boundaries. Each NERT also has a NERT Staging Area within their area to use as a gathering point to organize their neighborhood response to a disaster. At times, their is an emergency that only affects one neighborhood in the city. In a case where only one neighborhood is affected, CERT can be activated at the neighborhood NERT level if needed by the Fire Department.
There are also 3 Business Emergency Response Teams (BERTs) in the city. A BERT is an Emergency Response Team made up of employees responsible for providing emergency assistance to a business in Culver City in the event of a disaster. The 3 BERTs are the City Hall BERT, the Sony BERT, and the School District BERT.
Each NERT and BERT member that is able to will respond to their NERT or BERT Staging area and form Emergency Response Teams (ERTs) of two to six CERT Members to survey their neighborhoods and respond to any emergencies in their NERT or BERT. Once everything is static in their NERT or BERT, ERTs will respond if requested to their District Staging Area to assist any other NERTs or BERTs in their District that require additional resources. They may also be asked to respond to other Districts in the City if needed.
