Initial Basic Training Course
We would like you to join our Team! Become a member of Culver City's
Community Emergency Response Team and
Make a Difference in Culver City
in the event of a disaster.
Firefighters and CERT instructors will train you to help your family &
neighbors by teaching you to be better prepared first.
The 22 hours of training, divided into four classes, includes
Introduction to Disaster Response, Disaster First Aid, Fire Suppression,
Light Search and Rescue, Disaster Psychology, Hazardous Materials,
Terrorism Awareness and Incident Command. The training is "hands on"
requiring students to apply what they learn in class. There is a final
drill on the last day where students apply all of the training that they
have learned. The training is conducted on one Tuesday evening from 7 to
9:30 PM and the following Saturdays from 9 AM to 4 PM at the Culver City
Fire Department Training Facility.
There is a reprocity agreement between Culver City CERT, Los Angeles City CERT, Los Angeles County CERT, and many other CERT organizations in the County of Los Angeles. This means that you can take your CERT training from any of the other CERT organizations that are part of the agreement and Culver City will recognize that training and you can join Culver City CERT if you attend one of the Tuesday night training sessions and one of the final drills on the last Saturday afternoon of training. Conversely, if you live outside of Culver City, you may take CERT training through Culver City and the training will be recognized by the other CERT organizations that are part of the agreement. Priority is given to persons that live and work in Culver City. We also ask that you be at least 16 years of age to take the training.
If you are interested in joining the Culver City Community Emergency
Response Team, find a course where you will be able to commit yourself
to attend ALL of the training dates and times. If you do not complete
ALL of the training components you will not be able to participate in
any team activations until you make up the missed training component(s).
